KORN, ARTHUR
KORN, ARTHUR (1870–1945), electrophysicist and inventor. Born in Breslau, Korn lectured at the Technische Hochschulein Munich (1895–1914) and in Berlin (1914–35). He fled to the U.S. and in 1940 joined the Institute of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey. Korn specialized in radio photography, and his system for transmitting photographs electrically was first used by a French magazine in 1906. In 1928 his wireless method was used for transmitting pictures from Italy to the U.S. and by the German police. In America he elaborated a method for transmitting maps from aircraft to the ground and another for reproducing textile designs on cloth. His books include: Elektrische Fernphotographie (1904) and Bildtelegraphie (1923).
